Community, Business, and Local Government Information Asheville is a thiving city of approximately 70,000 residents. Nested in the bowl of a plateau, surrounded by mountain scenery, downtown Asheville is pedestrian-friendly and never boring. School Information Buncombe County boasts an excellent school system, from primary through University level. The University of North Carolina at Asheville offers degrees in liberal arts, natural sciences, computer sciences, and a cutting-edge multimedia arts and sciences degree program. Asheville-Buncombe Tech provides both degree programs and continuing education courses highly geared towards educating residents of all ages for the current needs of businesses, with excellent programs in hi-tech education. Mars Hill College, founded in 1856, offers degrees in 30 majors, and is affiliated with the North Carolina Baptist Convention. Waren Wilson College, originally founded in 1894, is a liberal-arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Synod of the South.
